Sucré

I realized today that I've seriously been slacking on posting my Song of the Week.
So for a quick update I thought I'd just share a new discovery of mine. The band is called Sucré, and you can listen to some of their music here. So far my favorite is 'Hiding Out'. I love the way they incorporate the cello and vocal, it just sounds like a beautiful day. Plus the lead singer has fantastic style, which is always a nice bonus

Song of the Week Saturday: Aqualung

If I ever make it back to Streetside Records, this is definitely on my list! It was released in April of this year, and so far the reviews I've found go both ways. I'll be interested to hear it for myself.

Song of the Week Saturday: Hey Monday

Hello Readers!
I am super excited about Hey Monday's new music video! I love their lead singer Cassadee Pope. She is so chic and stylish, despite being the only female member of the band. On a side note, her new hair style is gorgeous, and I think that will be the look I try out on my next haircut. If you're looking to find Hey Monday this summer, they are touring with Warped Tour!

Best of 2009

To all my friends that have been anxiously awaiting the release of my best of the year CD, I'm sorry that I have been so behind! Part of the reason behind delay is because I can't decide on a few songs. I have my monthly ones set, but at the end I like to add a few songs that went above and beyond just one month. 2009 was a great year for music, and being restricted to only a few songs is difficult. Thank you all for your understand. I promise that you will have them soon! :)

Forget and Not Slow Down

My friend Tim was home from college on Fall Break last week, so we planned a small road trip to KC to see RelientK at the Beaumont Club. They just released their 6th album two weeks ago, so it was great to hear their new songs. Counting the Warped Tour, and the Granada in Lawrence KS, this is the third time Tim and I have seen them. They seem to get better and better each time.
Tim's favorite TVshow is "The Office," and apparently the lead singer loves it just as much. He's written a spin-off of the theme song, and I must admit he did a pretty good job.

Brand New Eyes

Paramore released a new CDlast week, so Reid and I rushed over to buy it. Much to our great excitement Border's was having their Educators Discount weekend, and we saved 30% off everything!
With this great news, we also bought the new RelientK, A Fine Frenzy, and Regina Spektor. I am thrilled and suddenly have a million reasons to be in my car with the CDplayer :)

PureVolume.com

I realized today that I haven't done a very decent job of sharing this wonderful piece of heaven with all my readers. I can now sleep once again with a clear head!
It's this great website where unsigned bands can post their music and people like you and me can download it for free! Yes, for free! So far I've found: VersaEmerge (she sings with A Day to Remember in their song If it means a lot to you), He is We (plays the piano...enough said), Vanilla Sky (did a cover for Umbrella), and NeverShoutNever (oh man he is gorgeous! My favorite is 30 Days). Look these up and let me know if you find anything yourself

Something Inside

This is such a great song and movie. I can honestly say that I have cried every time I watch it.
Jonathan Rhys-Meyers (guitar) is a great musician and plays a great role in this movie. It's a shame that such a small part of the song is in the movie. One of the reasons I love Yellowcard so much is because they have a voilin player in their band. I know that the times with always change, and that musical styles come and go; but something about classical music will always be with us. It comes back in little bits here and there. Modern musicians take an idea from Chopin or need I say Pachelbel? At any rate, I hope you enjoy this song.

August is Over

I have been waiting a year to post these lyrics on my Facebook status. And finally, on Monday, I did! We the Kings has long been one of my favorite bands. I was listening to them before anyone knew who they were. And now they're on tour in the UK and are very well known.

August is Over
Say a prayer
The summer nights are dead
The fall is coming
We were careless hearts
Who got caught up in this

You were shy
To the night you drove me wild
And you crashed into me
And I won't lie
I wish it lasted a lifetime

Please stay-ay-ay
Won't you stay-ay-ay
Tonight

Breathe in deep
And say goodbye
The saddest song
I'll ever write
For anyone, anytime

Breathe in deep
Before I say
I can feel us slip away
You're almost gone
You're good as gone
August is over

No wait
Cause August had to end
All our bags are packed
Just two broken hearts
That got caught up in this

I deny
That tomorrow you'll be gone
And so far from me
It's something strange
Never love the same way

Please stay-ay-ay
Won't you stay-ay-ay
Tonight

Breathe in deep
And say goodbye
The saddest song
I'll ever write
For anyone, anytime

Breathe in deep
Before I say
I can feel us slip away
You're almost gone
You're good as gone

We can try to drown it out
But it never stops breathing
We can take it all in
But it never slows down
We've come down from that cloud

Well say-ay-ay
What you gotta say-ay-ay
Please say-ay-ay
What you gotta say
Whoa-a-oh-oh
Whoa-a-oh-oh

Breathe in deep
And say goodbye
The saddest song
I'll ever write
For anyone, anytime

Breathe in deep
Before I say
I can feel us slip away
You're almost gone
You're good as gone
August is over
We're not the reason
August is over

What do you think an artist is? An imbecile who has only eyes, if he is a painjter, or ears if he is a musician, or a lyre in every chamber of his heart if he is a poet, or even, if he is a boxer, just his muscles? Far from it: it the same time, he is also a political being, constantly aware of the heartbreaking, passionate, or delightful things that happen in the world, shaping himself completely in their images. How could it be possible to feel no interest in other people, and with a cool indifference to detach yourself from the very life which they bring to you so abundantly? No, painting is not done to decorate apartments. It is an instrument of war. -Pablo Picasso

I found this quote of the inside of the Rise Against cd! I love when people can be smart!

The band wagon broke down...but it's all better now :)

It happened again! Wow, sorry guys. This time two months went by without me posting my song of the week! I don't know how it happens, but the time just seems to slip away.I'm trying to get my life back on track. I realized today that I have not been to Starbucks in about a week, and I'm pretty sure that's the source of all my problems! Plus we are out of peanut butter and string cheese...so I'm pretty much dying here! I've also been slacking on the good things book (sorry Becca), but I'm trying to start that again too. This week seems to be ending a lot better. Thanks Andrew for all the laughs and support. :)
March:Week 1: Sorry by Buckcherry
Week 2: Show Me What I'm Looking For by Carolina Liar (free song on iTunes!)(very very good song!)

White Tie Affair

My friend Rachel introduced me to this great band called White Tie Affair. After looking them up on Youtube I have completely fallen in love with them! They are great! Up beat and easy to listen to! I can relate to their songs, which is always a good thing, and today I found out that they are coming to Warped Tour! I can't wait to see them live, as I'm sure they will be even better!
So far my favorite song is Take It Home!

Her Morning Elegance

I came across this video last week on youtube completely by chance. When I first watched the video, I only watched and didn't really listen to the song. But after buying it on iTunes and listening to it for a few days, I have completely fallen in love with it!

Sun been down for days
A pretty flower in a vase
A slipper by the fireplace
A cello lying in its case

Soon she's down the stairs
Her morning elegance she wears
The sound of water makes her dream
Awoken by a cloud of steam
She pours a daydream in a cup
A spoon of sugar sweetens up

And She fights for her life
As she puts on her coat
And she fights for her life on the train
She looks at the rain
As it pours
And she fights for her life
As she goes in a store
With a thought she has caught
By a thread
She pays for the bread
And She goes...
Nobody knows

Sun been down for days
A winter melody she plays
The thunder makes her contemplate
She hears a noise behind the gate
Perhaps a letter with a dove
Perhaps a stranger she could love

And She fights for her life
As she puts on her coat
And she fights for her life on the train
She looks at the rain
As it pours
And she fights for her life
As she goes in a store
With a thought she has caught
By a thread
She pays for the bread
And She goes...
Nobody knows

And She fights for her life
As she puts on her coat
And she fights for her life on the train
She looks at the rain
As it pours
And she fights for her life
Where people are pleasently strange
And counting the change
And She goes...
Nobody knows

I Will Possess Your Heart

I am such a slacker! It almost the end of January and I haven't once posted my song of the week. So this is kind of a catch up for all four weeks. This weeks song: I Will Possess Your Heart by Death Cab for Cutie.
This song has always been one of my favorites, but I have been listening to it a lot this past week. If you look up the lyrics they are very short, and repeat a few times. But I think that this song comes very close to what love is all about. Possessing the other persons heart. So many times we give up love because it becomes hard, or inconvenient. But if we fought for people, until we possessed their heart, think of how different the world would be.

Just in case you wondered...

Week 3: Vienna by The Fray
