Lifelong roommates?

Sometimes the NCR isn't that great, but I really enjoyed this article on marriage.
As my college friends start getting married, I'm realizing the full effects our culture has had on this sacrament.
The poem 'On Marriage' by Khalil Gibran has become extremely popular for most out-of-church weddings. Here's a small section:

Love one another, but make not a bond of love:
Let it rather be a moving sea between the shores of your souls.
Fill each other’s cup but drink not from one cup.
Give one another of your bread but eat not from the same loaf
Sing and dance together and be joyous, but let each one of you be alone,
Even as the strings of a lute are alone though they quiver with the same music.

And stand together yet not too near together:
For the pillars of the temple stand apart,
And the oak tree and the cypress grow not in each other’s shadow

In other words...

How to Have a Difficult Marriage

1. Love one another, but make not a bond of love.
2. Fill each other’s cup but drink not from one cup.
3. Give one another of your bread but eat not from the same loaf.
4. Stand together yet not too near together.

You actually expect a marriage like this to last??
I want my marriage to be the exact opposite!

My mother laughs and says that when I was in 8th grade we had to have a whole class on courtship. Now that the twins have reached that age, she just let's me tell them all the horrible things guys do to my friends in college and lets that serve as a "don't do this" lesson.
-Not paying for dates
-Letting you pay for dates
-Not returning phone calls/text messages
-Kissing other girls
-Telling you what other girls they find attractive
-Not introducing you to their parents
-Letting you drive them around
-Being rude
-No manners
Sound ridiculous? The list goes on and on...
