New Paths

Today was an exciting and terrifying day for me. For a while now I've been carefully researching, praying, having meltdowns and getting excited. I've completed two internships and pinned 505 items to my Pinterest board. But today I took a really large step. I registered my company name as an LLC in the state of Missouri and purchased a domain for my future website.
It's official, I am an event planner!
For now it's just going to be a side project and I'm still actively searching for a job in St. Louis. In the coming weeks I will be launching the new website and beginning promotions.
Oh yeah, the name I've landed on is Mr. and Mrs. Wedding Events. Catchy, right?
Wish me luck on this endeavor. I'm still a little terrified and it definitely hasn't set it yet. I'll most certainly be asking for help with spreading the word as well, so I apologize in advance for pestering you all to death!
Cheers,
Megan

Will Ferrell Figure Skates to the Downton Abbey Theme

On Thursday's Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Ferrell

performed a figure skating routine (in white sneakers and not on ice,

but you get the picture) and spoke about his hopes of competing in the

2018 Winter Olympics.

"You don't know how painful it's been to be snubbed by the [2014 Olympic

figure skating] team, not even told when they tryouts were on," he

said. "But I've been working on my routine, and in 2018, I'll be 50."

But, Ferrell's already figured out the routine that will get him to South Korea for the next winter games and

he's got the penguin suit, top hat and white gloves to tie it all

together.

"If you're wondering about what my costume is, my theme is Downton Abbey, and I'm a butler," he explained.

"Are you Carson from Downton Abbey?" asked Fallon.

"I don't know, I've never seen it," said Ferrell, "but I'm a butler."

I'm
glad to see the sports and literary worlds merging together and it
looks like Team USA's got a good shot at winning gold in 2018!

DIY Drink Coasters

This idea sprouted from an idea I saw on Pinterest as well as finding some hideous coasters at a thrift store. I have plenty more ideas for variations of this project, but I'll start by showing the two I've already made.

Project 1: Downton Coasters

My friend Lois had a birthday coming up and I knew I wanted to give her something inspired by our favorite show, Downton Abbey. We are huge fans of Dowager Countess and love every snarky comment she makes!

(By the way, has anyone aged more gracefully than Maggie Smith?)

So it started out with these ugly coasters I picked up that definitely needed a good washing before they were going to be gifted to anybody. Then I designed the template and chose four of our favorite Dowager quotes to place in the middle. I put a layer of Mod Podge directly onto the coasters and then centered my square cut out.
*Side note: With my first attempt I used regular printer paper, but this is much too thin and the glue will rip it. Card stock fixed the problem just fine.
After that I simply re-applied Mod Podge on top of the card stock every 30 minutes for about 2 hours. I really wanted to make sure they adhered well. To finish it off I sprayed a top coat of acrylic spray to make sure setting a cup on the coaster wouldn't leave a water mark. The end result was beautiful!

Project 2: Beer Coasters

I need a quick project that would knock out all the men on my Christmas list this year, and luckily they all like beer! Same basic steps as above, but this time I got my design from the cardboard 6 packs. I picked up some marble tiles from the local hardware store, and placed felt circles on the bottom so they wouldn't scratch whatever surface they were placed upon. Fast, easy, and adorable! (Can I say adorable when referring to a gift for men?! Oh well...)

Steals & Deals

This is by far the best deal I have ever found. My friend Erin and I were hitting up the after Christmas sale at Macy's and I found this BEAUTIFUL Oscar de la Renta sweater for $15! It's a half zip in a warm grey color with soft fur lining in the collar. Best part? It was originally over $100! And Spencer actually likes it :)
